A weekend in Paris

I have been to Paris a couple of times now, four I think. The first time I ever went there was with my boyfriend at the time and the last time I went there was also with my boyfriend at the time. What a coincidence! – Just to be clear, they are different people haha-
I love thinking back about my times in Paris. Especially the last time there, since I don’t remember all that much of the previous times haha. Yes, my memory sucks, but hey, that’s what this blog is for right! 🙂 I do remember always enjoying my time there. The first time is always extra special of course. As is everything you do for the first time. But today I’ll be sharing with you my latest experience and how I now feel about the city after having been there a couple times.
So like I said, I went with my boyfriend at the time. We’re still good friends so he won’t mind me telling this story. It was for just a weekend, one night. We drove there since it wasn’t really going to be that long of a drive from the south of The Netherlands, where he lived. Well, he drove there to be honest haha I didn’t drive at all 😂
Bonus story: along the route we stopped to get Starbucks and it was -honest to god- my first time ever ordering something at Starbucks and yes, they did spell my name wrong!

He drove all the way to the city center of Paris, parked the car and we walked 5 minutes to the hotel, which he had arranged. The hotel was fine, located in an incredibly expensive shopping street with all of the designer brands you can imagine. Of course we would normally not have been able to afford a hotel in such an expensive neighborhood. However, they were changing up some of the areas of the hotel so it was practically a building site and thus the hotel had lowered their prices. We even got upgraded to an even better room, one with an outside terrace and gorgeous view of the city. We could see the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame! Very romantic.

We got the upgrade because something had gone wrong. The guest that stayed in the room that was supposed to be ours decided to stay longer. Also, the guy that was working at the hotel reception was pretty much working 24/7 since he apparently only had one colleague and he called in sick. So he was incredibly stressed out and you could tell he was trying his best but was just so done. I felt so bad for him!
I don’t even remember in what order exactly we did things. I do remember that right after we arrived we went to the Eiffel Tower. All the way to the top. And that is where he actually asked me to be his girlfriend. How romantic is that? Like, nothing can beat that right? That’s a tough challenge for my next boyfriend haha.

We got a taxi to take us back to the hotel. I thought it was going to be extremely expensive, since taxi rides in Amsterdam can cost you 50 euros easily. However, turns out taxi’s are actually really cheap in Paris. Probably because there are so many of them. We then got ready and went for some cocktails near our hotel. We both had just one. Can you guess what we had to pay in total?………. 24 euro’s! That’s insane! Oh well, everyone knows Paris is extremely expensive, right. Especially in the city center.
The next day we drove/walked around a bit, saw Le Louvre and the Arc De Triomph and some more pretty places, went for a walk through the Champs- Élysées, I had to Google that name I always forget it. We even saw some kind of parade which we both didn’t really know what it was for but it was nice. At the famous square, there was a man playing the violin I think it was, lots of people were standing there listening to the music, which was beautifull by the way, and then when he stopped a man opposite of us got down on his knees and asked his girlfriend to marry him. Everyone was cheering for him when she said yes of course. So touching to watch, you could see how nervous he was!

Before we left to go home again we wanted to have a nice lunch so we found this restaurant near the Eiffel Tower. Tip of the day: never go to a restaurant that’s close to the Eiffel Tower, or any major touristic attraction for that matter. Way too expensive. We sat outside, both had one drink and one main dish and he also ordered soup. It was the best union soup he had ever had he told me. I totally believe that, didn’t expect anything else considering the cost of the soup haha. Now that you know how much the cocktails were, can you guess how much lunch cost?….. 64 euro’s! Dear lord. I was lucky enough to have a boyfriend that wanted to pay for it though. Such a sweetheart.

After this lunch we went to get the car and drove home. During this drive I actually fell asleep with my head on his lap! Adorable right? Haha.

I loved this trip to Paris, even though it was so short. Everyone should go to Paris at least once in their lifetime in my opinion. I don’t think I would visit the city again though, at least probably not for a long time. It’s a beautifull place don’t get me wrong, it’s the city of fashion, love, art and I think perfume as well. Lots of talented people live here, there’s lots of amazingly beautiful places to see…..But I just think it’s a bit overrated. After going here once you’ve basically seen it all. The touristy places and city center I mean of course, I’ve never been anywhere else in Paris. Anyways, after going there once, you’ve seen it all. It’s pretty and all, but it’s not the kind of place that would interest me for days or weeks. There’s too much people everywhere, there are lots of annoying people trying to sell you stuff at every tourist attraction, the weather is not really that great, everything is overpriced and apart from the famous places, most areas just look kind of dull. One time I went there I even saw the slums, right next to the street. It was a terrible sight. Not everything in Paris is glamorous.
